American Heritage Rivers--An EPA initiative to to help river communities that seek federal assistance and other resources to meet some tough challenges.
AIRNOW--US EPA's Ozone Mapping Project lets the user retrieve archived ozone maps for the current year and past years. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park region is a major domain. Daily peak one-hour and eight-hour ozone concentrations and hourly animations of the eight-hour ozone standard are available. Look for the Park map subdomain under the website's southeast region domain.
Center for Excellence for Sustainable Development--a toolkit of sustainable development decision support tools prepared by the Department of Energy's Regional Support Office for Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy.
Coweeta Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER)--Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, member of the LTER Network, and the centerpiece of a cooperative effort between the University of Georgia and the USDA Forest Service's Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory, Coweeta LTER combines short-term (five years or less) studies with long-term (decades) studies on the responses of forested watersheds and streams to natural and human-induced disturbances. It represents one of the longest continuous environmental studies on any landscape in North America.

Oak Ridge Environmental Information System--OREIS is a centralized, standardized, quality-assured, and configuration- controlled environmental data management system. The basic mission of OREIS is efficient retrievability and long-term (>3 years) retention of Oak Ridge Operations, Portsmouth, and Paducah environmental data. The scope of OREIS includes data supporting environmental restoration, compliance, and surveillance activities.
Passive Ozone Study--The NPS-funded passive ozone study of over 60 sites in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park that have been monitored for ozone pollution since May 2001 utilizing close to 40 volunteers. This information will be mapped later on this year by the University of Denver, which will correlate the measured ozone exposures with sensitive vegetation and trails that put Park visitors and staff at risk from health effects.
Smoky Mountain Database--a bibliographic database of scientific articles on the Great Smoky Mountains National Park compiled in the mid-1990s.
